In an article about Amazon moving into perhaps the last bastion of traditional broadcasting - live breaking news coverage with the upcoming American election - there's a revelation I found far more incredible.
Former NBC Nightly News anchor Brian Williams, who will anchor the upcoming streamer's first foray into news, was among those considered to be the host of Jeopardy! I can't believe this wasn't a bigger story, but Williams confirms he was contacted about the gig but decided very quickly it wasn't for him.
“I think I was a couple years into a 10-year run at Nightly News when, that is correct, my attorney Bob Barnett passed along a query, ‘Did I want to be the host of Jeopardy!?’ We had exactly one family meeting about it, and talked about the pros and cons, and how difficult it would be to explain that ‘Dad’s now a game show host,’ and I politely turned that down,” Williams said.
“I was flattered to be considered, and it’s been flattering to have meetings with these companies, but [the Amazon election special] was really the first thing that got the old juices flowing. And I am all in: my life is focused on one night.”
Williams was demoted from Nightly News to MSNBC duty when his stories about covering the Iraq War proved to be either exaggerated or untrue. It's been a while since he's anchored any news program on any TV platform since he left the network.

That was all I needed to read, thanks.
