This isn’t the most important item you’ll read about here today, but I’ve been wondering about that very bizarre spot that seems to run every 15 minutes on every Toronto radio station, featuring financial guru and motivational speaker Tony Robbins tubthumping his upcoming visit to the city.
I would never pay a dime to see him, but the commercial irritates me because it sounds like he’s talking into a speaker phone. He’s so far off mic that every time it comes on, I find myself wishing someone would tell him to move closer to whatever he’s yelling into. As a former radio producer, it drives me crazy – and as most people here will tell you, that’s not a very long drive!
It’s possible they did it on purpose – it definitely does grab the ear, almost like an out-of-focus camera shot would during a TV newscast. But not in a good way, since I think it detracts from the successful image he's trying to project.
For a guy who supposedly made a fortune telling other people how he did it, you’d think he could afford a decent microphone.

They couldn't find a grade 7 student who knows how to use Photoshop and not make Treliving look like he has jaundice?

Also, I swear he says "I'm coming to ronto" rather than "I'm coming to Toronto"
You're not the only one who hears that. It drives me nuts!
Reading into his cell phone with an audio recording app would have produced a better quality spot that that garbage.
"I'm coming, Toronto!" is how I hear it, though it is brutally poor. And twenty-eight speakers for a three-hour session? What's that, about six minutes each?
Plus the aforementioned Pitbull will be there. Pitbull!
I have a hard time feeling sorry for anybody that attends these things.

BoredOp, I believe grilled.cheese is correct. Rarely is he wrong on many matters related to the radio industry, or any other industry for that matter.
Tony also sounds a tad angry at times during his read. I would be angry to if forced to record from Pitbull's powder room.
I would hand over the keys to my neighbour's car if Jillian Harris replaced Todd Talbot last minute. She's great at interior design.
