Latest cullings at Post Media

54 people are getting canned at Post Media's Pacific Newspaper Group which owns the Vancouver Sun and Province - this on top of the 6 positions culled at the Ottawa Citizen, 9 at the Montreal Gazette, and 6 at the Windsor Star that were announced in January...roughly 3,000 total since 2011...

The cited article has the usual quote from Unifor that they will fight massive layoffs.   Seems to me this is the same statement they made by Unifor and its predecessor CEP - when Omni TV killed off news programming,  Citytv stations killed off local morning shows in various markets, and Global went to a centralized news set and laid off broadcast journalists.  In spite of all of these "fights" - has Unifor ever been successful in restoring one of the job positions eliminated in these so-called "massive layoffs".   Now the rhetorical question  -- why doesn't the press ever "call out" these Unifor spokespeople on their lack of success in previous cases, winning the "fight" ---- involving these massive layoffs.  Just asking.
