Why Are All Network Fall Preview Shows So Idiotic?

On Tuesday night, I wasted a half hour of my life I'll never get back watching the Fox Fall Preview, highlighting the new shows that are coming to the network this year.

About a week ago, I also made the mistake of tuning into the CBS Fall Preview, which tubthumped the "great" new line-up (some of which was also last year's line-up) on the Eye Network in the coming weeks.

I've seen these kinds of promo-laden one-offs before. In all the years I've made the mistake of tuning them in, because I still have an interest in the new shows, I've yet to see one of them actually be anything but witless, idiotic, an insult to the intelligence of the viewer and a complete waste of time. And those are the good points!

This year's CBS one, for example, featured stars from the network's series telling you all the reasons to tune in. But instead of just showing a small bit of the newcomers, all we really saw was those stars not taking it all seriously and doing very unfunny shtick.

Fox's was even worse. It featured network stars Joel McHale and Ken Jeong supposedly driving (!!) to Hawaii in an RV to preview one of the shows that takes place there, then back to the U.S. for other mini-second "scenes" from their fall line-up. Did anyone else see this thing?

I get why they do it. I just don't understand why these shows are so terrible every single year. The writing is awful, the people in them clearly don't want to be there and perhaps worst of all, it doesn't make me want to watch any of the shows they preview!

At least we're mostly done for the 2024-2025 season. But these people are supposed to be pros and they can't write a decent look-ahead show? Ever?

Here's my preview: I'll be sure to avoid these promo-fests when they return a year from now. They're virtually unwatchable.
