A Behind The Scenes Guy At City TV Has Passed

Most here will not know the name Bob Budziak. He was primarily an audio guy at City TV in the 70s and 80s and in addition to controlling the sound on CityPulse (later CityNews) he also helped put MuchMusic on the air and worked on many Blue Jays games.

I discovered while reading the Toronto Star on Saturday that Bob had passed away in the Niagara area, following a battle with brain cancer, a kind that is almost always fatal. He was only 67 years old.

I learned a lot from his obit - including that his real first name was Boguslaw and that he was born in Poland and spoke the language fluently.

I can't say I was a good friend of Bob's but I knew him over the years and our paths crossed frequently. He was a truly nice man and I'm very sorry to hear he had to suffer. I'm glad, at least, that is over. His brother, Kryst, also worked at City and I send my condolences to him and his family.

Broadcasting can be a place of huge egos and sometimes, a-holes. Bob was neither of those and he will be missed. But I'm very glad I had the opportunity to know him. Rest in peace, sir. You have certainly earned it.

Re: A Behind The Scenes Guy At City TV Has Passed

Very sad news. Too young.  Bob certainly was a very nice man as you note RA.  So too was his brother Kryst.  During my time at Citytv his other brother Henry worked in the same department as me (a little known fact).  Henry was also a pleasure to work with.  A reflection on the entire family I'm sure.

RIP Bob

Re: A Behind The Scenes Guy At City TV Has Passed

I too read Bob’s obit yesterday. Having worked with him at Citytv I can say that Bob/Boguslaw was indeed one of the good ones, good natured and a good worker. I had heard earlier last week he had passed and was shocked, only 67. My condolences to his family.

R.I.P. Bob, I’ll white balance the cameras for you.
