If you believe the articles, the death throes of WCBS-AM as a news radio station after 57 years will come at midnight Monday morning. If you're up late, you can hear the historic final moments of this iconic station either over the air at 880 AM or online with a VPN set to the U.S. just before midnight. (Ironically, as I type this, they're broadcasting a N.Y. Mets game.)
It's not often you get to hear the last few moments of a format and call letters, but after that last hurrah, you'll be listening to WHSQ-AM, aka ESPN Radio N.Y. And WCBS-AM will fade into history, making news one last time.

I'm up late every night. I'll be listening on 880.
I happened to be in the Windsor area the day that Detroit's smooth jazz station WVMV 98.7 flipped from smooth jazz to a teen bubble gum format. They did it in the middle of the day, after thanking all their loyal listeners for their years of support.
Kinda like thanking your wife and kids, before walking out on them.

Been listening in the last few hours. Between each segment they play a tribute from a current or former employee saying thanks to the listeners and staff members, saying how proud they were to work at WCBS 880.
I haven't heard anything quite like this since WCFL announced it was changing format and started running ads from competitors, including one from WLS telling people the music was continuing on AM 890.
It is weird to hear but I'm glad they're at least giving the station its final due and not just going to the sound of waves until midnight - which is what CFL did on its final rock day.

They've begun broadcasting - between weather and traffic updates on the 8s - a show called "WCBS Through The Years," going all the way back to the beginning of the station, using vintage tape unheard in decades. It's been pretty good so far, if a little disjointed. But the fact they still have some of the tape or discs from the 30s is amazing.
