Last year, CBC-TV debuted an English language version of a Radio-Canada French series called "Plan B." It was a time travel show about a guy who discovered a service that would take you back to a certain year and day to try to correct your own history.
I loved the idea but not the execution, since there wasn't enough time travel and too much marital drama.
Now the network is bringing back the show for a second season, with what you might call its own Plan B. The entire cast of characters has changed and it's a brand new series. But unlike the last time, this year the debut won't come on broadcast television. The entire series will be available starting August 11th on its CBC Gem streaming service.
I know there's a lot on Gem that's not just Canadian and it's actually not a bad site, especially since it's free (although a sign-up is required.) I can't recall the last time a Canadian broadcast network debuted one of its higher profile shows online instead of on air.
This time, it sounds like the plot will be a bit more intriguing so I may give it another look. The Globe & Mail's review of the new season, which you can read here, makes it sound - much like the show itself - like it might deserve a second chance.
