New Scarborough FM Station Now Won't Be On The Air Until Oct. 2025

You've probably long forgotten that back in April 2021, the CRTC awarded a religious broadcaster a licence for a very low power signal at 105.3 FM in Scarborough

After the death of one of its founders and a sale to another religious group, the drop dead date for it to be on the air (although at 150 watts, you may never even hear it) was October 18, 2024. But now the new owners say they can't be on the air by that time because of trouble finding a transmitter site.

Not that they haven't tried, running into an interesting little bit of intrigue involving another existing Scarborough station.

"CKSC was originally granted as a colocation on another broadcaster tower (CJRK-FM) on the rooftop of 100 Wingarden Court in Scarborough. We have made several attempts to discuss an agreement with this broadcaster. They have moved their main offices, their voice mail box is full, they do not respond to emails, and any directive to connect with them requests those methods of contact.

We have also attempted to connect with them through a third party to no avail. So at this moment, we no longer have sufficient time to secure a site agreement and bring the station to air prior to the expiry of the license.

We are therefore now requesting additional time to either successfully secure a site agreement for the current site, or to locate a new site that meets the broadcast parameters whereby we may bring the station to air."

Sounds like the other station involved is living up to the "Jerk" in its CJRK call letters!

Last week, the CRTC granted permission for the extension and they will now have a new must-be-on-air date of October 18, 2025.
