You don't have to be a sports fan to appreciate this bizarre story, which is putting a professional baseball player on the radio for more than just his on field play. He's getting airplay, as well.
His name is José Igelsias and he's a rookie shortstop with the New York Mets. But he also has a side hustle - he not only gets hits, he makes them. He's only been in the Majors since May 31st, but it turns out he recorded a song called "OMG" under the name "Candelita" that is getting radio airplay and is #1 on the Latin charts on iTunes and is played every time he comes up to bat.
It's become such a big song, he actually performed the tune on home turf after a game last week - where the entire team joined in. I can't recall anything like this ever happening before in baseball history, which is what makes it unique.
A very strange moment to see a Major League player take the mic to sing his own song to a sold out crowd, but you can see the entire spectacle below. (Although I think he's lip synching most of the time.)
