I’m not entirely sure who maintains the harbour camera that CFTO frequently goes to for their weather set-up monitor shot, but I have a suggestion: do you think you can send someone down there to clean the thing off?
It’s looking pretty grotty on air, with splotches and blotches of dirt on the lens, what appear to be insects setting up shop and is just generally really, really dirty. And boy does it show on air. I’m not sure where this camera is or how hard it might be to get to, but there must be some way to clean it to get a better picture.
It doesn’t look like anyone’s wiped off that camera lens in years. How much longer can you leave it?

I think CP24 uses that same live Camera as CTV Toronto does.

I remember when City TV used to use "The Eyes of Toronto," as they used to call them. Those were cameras located on top of the CN Tower. The one thing I definitely remember about them is - especially during a rainstorm - they had a windshield wiper attached that could be moved remotely to clean up the lens so you could get a clearer picture.
I wonder if the camera CFTO is using has that feature. If so, they should make use of it.

For the longest time they had a shot of the city from Polson Pier that was suddenly interrupted by a huge rusting ugly lake freighter docked in the way, and left it there for several weeks before moving to what I believe is the shot at the top of this thread. It gave me a chuckle looking at it when they broke for the shot during the weather until one day someone in control there woke up and realized what was now in the view.
It definitely dove tailed well into CFTO's recent "don't give a sh*t" approach brought on by being understaffed due to all the cuts.
BTW, recently their news reporting has reached a new low. So many reports consist of simply interviewing bystanders (not witnesses) about their feelings and then parroting police statements with nothing in them that I don't watch them any more because they don't provide any useful information, while Global and the rest actually provide analysis and do a little background digging despite having their own dire staffing issues.
There was a boating tragedy a few weeks ago where Global did all kinds of interviews and social media follow up to glean information on what happened, while CFTO just reported the tight lipped information-free OPP statement. A few days later CFTO led with "an update" which consisted of the OPP saying they had nothing to add. Don't get those shoes dirty chasing the stories boys and girls!
