The question comes up after listening to parts of Thursday night's program. This 4-hour broadcast runs on CFRB, CJAD, CFRA, CKTB and CFAX in Vancouver. It's that last station that makes me wonder.
I was out walking the dog a few times while it was on and with the Jays playing a day game, I decided to give it a listen. What I heard was surprising. They talked about the then-possible TTC strike - in Toronto.
They moved on to the last minute cabinet shuffle at Queen's Park - in Ontario.
At some point in the show, guest host Richard Crouse, interviewed an actress for a play - onstage only in Toronto.
Later, they had on the guy behind a concert - taking place in Toronto.
To be fair, they had one guest on about a New Brunswick tourist attraction. But otherwise it was all Toronto all the time.
If this is supposed to be a national show, why would anyone in B.C. even bother to listen? I've heard this before. Regular host Jim Richards is constantly apologizing for bringing up Toronto-centric topics. But he does it anyway.
That's fine for whatever ears it gets on CFRB (and maybe CKTB) but if they're going to send this to the Nation's Capital, Quebec and the west coast, they need to stop the never-ending Toronto focus. If 1010 were filling those hours with non-stop news about, say, Winnipeg, would anybody here even bother?
They definitely need to rethink this show or drop it from being on across the country. Although it's probably only there because one show airing on so may stations saves them money. And they likely don't care that it's often irrelevant to most of the talk outlets it airs on every night.

Perhaps the idea will make a lot more sense in 2025 when the Federal election is coming up...that is, if they focus on actual federal issues and don't just toss on guests from Toronto that are trying to run for an MP seat.

It's Jim Richards. Does it really matter what it's called, if nobody is listening anyway?

I reside in Oakville and have no interest in Toronto's issues. Today, I listened to the BBC, as both Moore and Pierson were incessantly discussing the TTC. Both of these stations are missing out on the listenership of the immense population within the range of their transmitters. Its little wonder they are both below a 2 share .

Rob Snow's show on Rogers stations is much more of a national profile. Whenever I have listened to him his topics are normally of national interest and he has calls from all over the country. It seems even more national focused than Roy Green. And the host doesn't dwell on 4 or 5 topics that Mr. Green tends to do.
