Cabinet shuffle sees former Belleville broadcaster change portfolios

As much as I don't like talking politics, this is notable. Todd Smith, formerly of Belleville's Quinte Broadcasting Company (CIGL-FM/CJTN-FM/CJBQ) and, like me, an alumnus of the radio broadcasting program at the city's Loyalist College, has traded places with Stephen Lecce in the Ford government cabinet. Smith becomes education minister, while Lecce takes over as energy minister.

Funny story I heard involving "Smitty", from a Quinte Broadcasting employee during my first year at Loyalist. Smith and some other QBC staffers were at the wedding of Mix 97 morning show host and program director Sean Kelly. Supposedly Smitty and former Mix afternoon host, the late Joey Martin, took the Mix 97 Supercruiser (basically a motorhome modified for broadcast use) for a joyride, ripped the undercarriage off, and the Supercruiser was never the same after that adventure; from that point on it just sat in the lot opposite the 10 South Front Street studios until it was eventually scrapped.

Here's CP24's story on today's cabinet shuffle, including the swap between Smith and Lecce.
