Both NTV and OZ-FM are still on air, but admit they were hit by cyberattackers, who are threatening to release private information online if they don't pay up.

Re: Newfoundland TV & Radio Station Hit By Cyberattack But Stay On Air

And now there are reports of another cyber attack. And this one has more far reaching effects. It hit one of my favourite sites, The Internet Archive, which gathers obscure and historic artifacts and videos from all over the web. In this case, the attack was a Denial of Service intrusion, which made it impossible to access the site.

It was down for at least three days but appears to be back up now.

The Archive is a very valuable resource that, along with videos, saves old webpages, books, music, movies and even software. It would be a real loss if it were to disappear.

“Thankfully the collections are safe, but we are sorry that the denial-of-service attack has knocked us offline intermittently during these last three days,” Brewster Kahle, the founder and digital librarian at the Internet Archive, said in a statement. “With the support from others and the hard work of staff we are hardening our defenses to provide more reliable access to our library. What is new is this attack has been sustained, impactful, targeted, adaptive, and importantly, mean.”
