The first two rollouts begin Thursday, with a local streaming feed of CBC News B.C. and CBC Toronto. Those have already been added to the app and CBC Gem.
More free streaming channels, (including Windsor) and others across the country, will come in the next few weeks and months.
CBC Pres. Catharine Tait has frequently said she believes the future of the Corp. is online and this would seem to be in line with that philosophy. Of course, there are already several similar services from competitors. CityNews 24/7 is CityTV's offering, while Global has had an ongoing live news feed through its site for a while.

The changes also make it easier to hear various CBC Radio 1 channels on your phone.
