The first takes place this coming week, the second next February. But both look DVR worthy.
Next Tuesday, NBC celebrates 10 years with Jimmy Fallon as host of The Tonight Show. (It's hard to believe he's been there for a decade.) The show will bring some of the best skits, guests and laughs from the long running late night fixture and runs two hours in primetime, from 9-11 PM.
I've never been a huge Fallon fan as host of the show, although there's no question he's extremely talented. But I've always found his sycophantic swooning over guests hard to take. (It reminds me of SCTV's Sammy Maudlin.) Still, if the show is anything like the old Johnny Carson anniversary celebrations, it should be a good watch.
The second event may be worth the wait. A three hour primetime special celebrating 50 years of Saturday Night Live - and considering how long it's been on and influenced pop culture in its early years, three hours may not be enough.
It's scheduled for Feb. 16th - a bit ironically on a Sunday night, which gets far more viewership than anything shown on Saturday. It's not yet clear what form the show will take, but there's a ton of stuff to go through and I'm counting on them choosing the best from all its eras. But whatever happens, Jane you ignorant slut, you can be sure it will need more cowbell...
