Haliburton Station Granted Retransmitter In Minden

The CRTC has granted approval for CKHA-FM in Haliburton to add a transmitter in nearby Minden, successfully arguing that it provides news for the area, but its signal barely reaches the town. It asked for - and has received - permission to add a signal at 97.1 with a not-so-powerful 27 watts of power.

An intervenor complained that the frequency might interfere with CIGL Belleville, but the Commission determined it simply wouldn't be strong enough to cause any issues. But while this may pose a solution for CKHA, it may not forever be a permanent one. Because it's a low power outlet, if anyone applies for a full power licence on the same frequency, the newcomer would be obliged to abandon it.

But for now, it's a go, The new rebroadcaster is supposed to be on the air by May 2026.
