It's being partly sponsored by the European Broadcasting Union, but I imagine it will be available worldwide. 

(dot) radio joins the existing (dot) tv, and it was probably inevitable. In fact, I'm surprised it hasn't been around before this. Per their press release: 

The following categories will be accepted for the use of a .radio domain:

• Radio broadcasting stations
• Unions of Broadcasters
• Internet radios
• Radio Amateurs
• Radio professionals (journalists, radio hosts, DJs, …)
• Radio-related companies selling radio goods and services

Only "official radio operators" will be able to get one initially, before the program expands. It's expected the .radio domain will officially be online everywhere by November of this year. Hmm, maybe CKNT Mississauga may finally be able to use it by then!
