For several weeks, I’ve been privately bemoaning the lack of any major radio news here at Old Yeller. While we had some great posts, there was nothing that really spoke about how the city’s media landscape was changing.
And then came the past few days. I’m not sure I’ve ever seen 48 hours or so quite like it.
Consider what’s gone on in just a matter of a few days:
-A former Corus overnight host turns up on CFRB
-W5 aired its final episode after 50+ years.
-Tim Denis announces his retirement from CKTB after 47 years in radio.
-Bell Media appears to have dropped its iHeart branding.
-680 Newsradio undergoes yet another name change.
-CityNews on City TV completely revamps its on-air look, changing graphics and returning to the once verboten anchor desk.
And
-CHFI gets a new afternoon drive host in the form of Rick Campanelli.
I’d say that’s a record breaking amount of news in less than a week! Pretty amazing. What’s next? I can hardly wait to find out!
