FRS
Is FRS a real thing? Is there a practical use for it, or is it just a plaything for kids?
After all is said and done, more is usually said than done.

We use FRS at the local junior hockey games, for the ice-level crew to relay goal and penalty info to me (the public address announcer and online scorekeeper) in the stands; my wife (the DJ in the gondola, beside the broadcast commentators) listens in, and also communicates with us using her radio.

Well, FRS has an actual range of about 0.5 to 1.5 km (0.3 to 1 mile), In have used it on live events cheaper than renting walkies .

The little, hand held radios used by the staff in stores like Canadian Tire or Home Depot, are they FRS?

Canadian Tire, at least Dixie & Dundas, uses *real* radios. Not sure about Home Depot. I think Indigo at Sherway might use FRS.
