Kingston’s historic student-run radio station faces enrolment crisis

Didn't know there was a high school FM station in Kingston, but it's apparently the oldest one of its kind in Canada. But it's future may be in doubt, as enrolment falls and fewer and fewer kids take an interest in radio.

Times have certainly changed. If they'd had this in my high school, you never would have gotten me out of that booth!

Re: Kingston’s historic student-run radio station faces enrolment crisis

I remember hearing the station for the first time in 2001, during a week-long high school program at Queen's; the transmitting antenna was just a stone's throw from the campus, atop the old Kingston Collegiate. Turns out when I began studying radio at Belleville's Loyalist College later in 2001, at least three of my classmates were CKVI alumni, and I believe Loyalist saw a bunch more ex-CKVI personnel over the years.

I am also a former Loyalist alumni, but 1976, and was offered a job in the Maritimes before finishing my first semester. Bryan Onley was the prof. I took the position on his advice, the rest as they say, is history.
