Why "Star Trek: The Next Generation" Almost Never Became A Series

Purists might disagree, but The Next Generation was always my favourite version of "Star Trek," although the original was a cherished part of my childhood and I even wrote a letter to the heads of NBC in 1967 trying to save the show. (It ran for another two years, so I guess it helped!)

But there's a soft spot in my heart (right next to the one in my head) for TNG and its cast. As it turns out, this show almost never happened, all thanks to the overwhelming presence of "Star Wars" back in 1977. An interesting story I'd never heard before.

Re: Why "Star Trek: The Next Generation" Almost Never Became A Series

Anyone into TNG simply has to watch the third season pf Star Trek Picard.
It is apparently the last Picard series that will be made, but this third series pretty well wraps up TNG for good anyway.
IMHO the series is superb.
The now older TNG cast really outdoes themselves.
The series makes up for two previous Picard seasons which were just so-so, but really set this third series up.
I watched the series with Bell On Demand.  I'm sure it's still available there.

Some of the cast from the aborted 'Phase II' project wound up in small roles for The Motion Picture.
