His name is Mike Stone, but he was better known by his nickname "Stoney." He'd been doing sports talk radio in the Motor City for over 30 years. That is, until Friday, when after three decades on the air in the same city, he signed off from WXYT, the Ticket, publicly thanking more than 100 people by name on his last show.
His final gratitude, though, was for listeners, who had stuck with the personality all those years. And while he was sorry to go, he admits there are a few bright spots about hanging 'em up.
"I am somewhat sad that I will not be on the air every day," continued Stone, during a 13-plus minute farewell, "but I know that sadness ends when there's no fricking alarm at 4:30 in the morning."
It's expected his exit isn't entirely permanent. He'll do occasional fill-in on the station in the future.
