After playing the fiery Jack McCoy in the venerable procedural drama for more than 400 episodes, Waterston will be stepping down from the role after its February 22nd episode.

Although not the longest-running character in the franchise, his is the longest-running character to remain in the original Law & Order, followed by S. Epatha Merkerson playing Lieutenant Anita Van Buren for 390 episodes and Jerry Orbach playing Detective Lennie Briscoe for 273 episodes, according to IMDB.com. 

Waterston is the last remaining cast member from the show's original run (1990-2010). He rejoined the series after it was resurrected in 2022 for a 21st season after being initially cancelled in the spring of 2010.
