CHFI's Erin Davis Does Final Show On Thursday

After much publicity and more than a few tears, longtime (minus that brief interruption when they fired her) CHFI morning host Erin Davis does her final show on Thursday. According to her blog, she plans to write a book (who doesn't?) and she explains why she decided to do her final gig on a Thursday.

"You may wonder why the final show is on a Thursday. Well, I can tell you: we wanted to make sure the Breakfast Television bunch could be there to do some live hits, and they're busy Friday with their annual Christmas show from the Sheraton Centre. So that's why.

"You can catch moments from our show tomorrow live on City, as well as on CHFI's Facebook page. But most of all, on the radio, where it all began. First, in Belleville in November 1980 and then Ottawa, Windsor and Toronto. It's impossible to believe I've been doing this for so many years, but harder still to fathom leaving it. Yet here we are."

FYIMusicNews.ca confirms that Maureen Holloway officially starts with co-host Darren B. Lamb on January 9th, while frequent fill-in Christine Cardoso gets the position of "News Specialist."

Re: CHFI's Erin Davis Does Final Show On Thursday

Her final blog entry as an on air host reveals a bit about her background in radio:

"In 1984, a mass firing at CKLW in Windsor made me pack my bags, come stay with my sister in Scarborough and try to get a job in Toronto. An all-news station, CKO, hired me for a morning co-host position and it was there I stayed until 1988.

"One week in August, I was called by two radio bosses... CFTR and CHFI news boss John Hinnen was offering me morning news with Don Daynard. The other call was from CFRB's George Ferguson, offering me morning news with Wally Crouter. After much hemming and hawing, I chose the one I thought would be most fun.

"I chose correctly.

"
From 11 years with a man who really didn't want a co-host - especially a girl - but couldn't deny some radio magic (our age and generational differences were a good start) to a shorter run with his successor, Bob Magee, I struggled to find my place in the show. Obviously I was going to be the one in the background; I recall one co-worker from the afternoon shift pulling me aside to tell me it didn't sound "right" when I was more dominant on the show. Obviously I didn't go on to co-host with him."

Another voice not being heard on Toronto radio any longer is that of Lyndsey Vanstone , former producer for John's Tory and Oakley. A web search turns up she is now the morning news anchor for B101 in Barrie.

Hey mic'em. where did you get this on Lyndsey Vanstone in Barrie ?   B-101 is now BIG 101, and last I heard they did not do news, aside from the jocks reading a couple of quick headlines.
They (Corus) shut down the newsrooms in Barrie back in the summer.

She must have a new page. I am glad to hear she made The Move.

She's been everywhere. Rogers TV, Wingham, Barrie, CFRB, CP24, Global TV, AM 640 and the Move...  Never more than a year or two at any of them.  A restless soul I suppose.
