Longtime Toronto Star Columnist Dies At 84

If you were a subscriber to the Toronto Star at any time in the past half century, you probably remember his name. George Gamester was the kind of columnist the paper would never employ in this era of cutbacks. He didn't write about politics or world events. Instead his "Gamester's People" focused on just that - the ordinary folks who lived in Toronto and beyond.

He wrote it for more than 40 years and - according to the paper's obit - was one of those rare people about whom no one ever seemed to have a bad word.

He was 84.

My father was one of the ordinary folks George wrote about 20 years ago. It was such a beautiful piece which I will always treasure.
