The late CHUM morning legend Jay Nelson penned a piece for RPM in Jan. 1972 about how to prepare for an AM drive show. It stressed the importance of preparation and the role the morning guy or gal plays in the lives of listeners. (Nelson was usually second in the overall ratings, right behind CFRB's Wally Crouter, with over a million listeners.) He wouldn't recognize the CHUM of today.
But it's an interesting blast from the past from a guy who became a sensation in the city, at a time where radio held a very different place in our daily lives.

Yup. The world has changed quite a bit since before my time.
Thanks for the reminder.

I actually followed that advice throughout my radio career, for whatever shift I started at. Not to brag by any means, but I ended up doing mornings at my last three gigs, after being promoted from evenings. But, that was a lifetime ago.
