Old BBC Interview Surfaces Of John Lennon On A Beatles Reunion

It's been 43 years since that terrible night in New York when John Lennon was gunned down by an obsessed fan outside the Dakota.

The BBC has now found a long forgotten interview with the ex-Beatle, recorded in 1975, in which Lennon muses on whether the Fab Four would ever be open to reuniting. Turns out, he didn't entirely rule it out. Imagine.

"I think over the period of being apart, we've all thought wouldn't it be nice, that wouldn't be bad. I've worked with Ringo and George but I haven't worked with Paul because we had a more difficult time but now we are pretty close.

"The other question is would it be worth it? That's answered by if we wanted to do it. If we wanted to do it then it would be worth it. If we got in the studio together and turned each other on again, then it would be worth it, sod the critics."

Which reminds me of the words of poet John Greenleaf Whittier:

For all sad words of tongue and pen,
The saddest are these:
"It might have been."

John Lennon: 'If we got in the studio together and turned each other on again, then it would be worth it'

Yes, indeed. What might have been.

As are so many of you, I'm a Beatles nut. Given that the lads never live-performed Abbey Road, the Dutch Beatles-cover group 'The Analogues' may be the closest thing there will ever be to seeing it performed live by The Beatles.

They travelled to the Abbey Road studios and performed the complete album, in front of a live audience, and we have it here. Turn it on and be amazed!

Remember the excitement on the day of a new Beatles release? Remember how important radio was to the process?

Relive that moment; and those feelings; when you pull over to the side of the road, at the appointed time, to give that first listen your full attention. Who'd have thought it would happen again in 2023, on the streets of London?

I've posted this before, but for those who may have missed it, these are from the Toronto Star on October 9th, the day after the murder of John Lennon in 1980. They talk about how local radio responded to the terrible news.
