Detroit Radio Veteran Retires After 52-Yr. Career In Motown

His name is Jim "JJ" Johnson and he's been on the air for more than five decades, lasting 13 years at WOMC-FM alone. Friday was his last day in the biz, after a pretty amazing career on Detroit radio. The fact he never had to go to another market is quite remarkable.

“Growing up, I was the kid hiding under the covers with a pocket transistor radio, so my parents couldn’t hear, listening to the greats on CKLW and Keener 13, dreaming that one day I might be able to do that,” Johnson said in a release earlier this year. “I have been so fortunate to have realized that dream and have been able to live it in my hometown my entire career."

You can hear the final 90 minutes of the show here. (His final goodbye starts around the 1:28:57 mark.)
