B. Wheeler's name appearing above an obituary, whether it is about a performer or music industry executive (or John Doe from Deseronto), is a trigger to check it out.
Pg. O12 of today's print edition Globe 'n Mail has the Obit of Stan Klees of RPM magazine and Tamarac records who passed two weeks ago. Snippets about Klees' interactions with performers over the years are interesting, including w. Shirley Matthews, Little Caesar & the Consuls, Bobby Curtola, Richie Knight, Pierre Juneau, Bernie Finkelstein, Sam Sniderman, Bobby Darin as well as a tussle with CHUM's Bob McAdorey that resulted with Klees winning a libel suit against McAdorey
The over-riding story is about Klees' role in opening doors for CanCon artists and keeping his foot in those doors, an ongoing debate that Mr. Wheeler obviously understands well. In fact, he understands it so well that he may in fact be an unregistered SOWNY lurker, if not an anonymous contributor. Who knows?
