I've heard of some strange promotions before, but this is a first - CityNews is offering viewers/listeners membership in a station-backed "wine club," that will see three bottles of vino delivered to subscribers every month. The price: $99.
I guess there's really nothing wrong with this, it's just that I can't remember a TV or radio station using booze as a promotional come-on at any time in the past. I'm not sure how long this has been going on, but it appears to be - you should pardon the expression - of recent vintage.

That's pretty unique for sure.
Look to me like it's a direct revenue stream rather than a promotion.
These guys provide the service and Citytv uses their brand and audience to sell it and take a cut

Not to forget that AM 640 and Oshawa's The Rock both had a beer named for them.
In a way, it's the perfect symmetry, I suppose. After all, booze rhymes with news!
