Not sure how many here remember that Ken Daniels worked in Toronto radio for several years, before moving on to eventually become the play-by-play voice of the Detroit Red Wings, a gig he's had for a long time. I knew Daniels when he was here and he was a terrific guy even then.
I had no idea that his life had been surrounded by tragedy, after his son - only 23 - died of a drug overdose in late 2016.
Since then, the Daniels have tried to not let that terrible loss be for naught, starting a foundation in their son's name to help prevent other families from suffering a similar fate.
It was a terrible tragedy, but it reminds me of the Ken Daniels I knew here so long ago, able to make something good out of something so awful.

A class act, indeed. No one should outlive their children, regardless of the cause. He deserves better.
