Radio I Local Programming

Here in London, CBC Radio 1 has always had an afternoon drive program specifically for south-west Ontario (Windsor, London Chatham)

Now it appears that program had been scrapped. All this week it has been replaced with a program called Up North, with emphasis on Thunder Bay, Sudbury and Saukt Ste Marie.

After all is said and done, more is usually said than done.

I wouldn’t read too much into it. Such substitutions are common in the dead of summer.

They’d remove “north” from the name were this permanent

This is common in BC, there are three different afternoon shows, produced in Vancouver, Victoria and Kelowna (the latter covering most of the province outside the Lower Mainland and the Island). From time to time (surprisingly often) the Vancouver afternoon show will also be broadcast to the Kelowna broadcast area, and on rare occasions I’ve heard the Victoria show go provincewide. None of these have been holiday instances, it seems to be at random.

I heard the London afternoon show on Friday while I was in town and they had the local news from the Windsor studio. Anytime I’ve heard the show previously everything was done from London. I suspect there’s staffing issues associated with summer holidays, plus the recent departure of their morning host which may lead to hosts being moved around.

Something else I noticed, yesterday at 10am CBC London had The World This Hour, anchored by Mike Wyse from CBC Toronto. I’m not sure if that’s common practice for London but most CBC stations I’ve heard have local on the hour weekdays between 9 and 3.
