In the end, perhaps there were just too many differences. The liberal Toronto Star and the conservative Postmedia have confimed their discussions about merging the two entities are over. 

Perhaps they're hoping Bill C-18 will come to their rescue. Although the way things are going, they may be in for a long wait.
