There's a report about parents of a guy who died "rooftopping" (the practice of foolishly climbing to skyscraper rooftops and taking selfies / videos) and are warning others about the obvious dangers. I saw the report on TV so I didn't read the write-up, but it was reported on Reddit Toronto and one poster expressed his frustration about how it was written. It dovetails another CTV one I saw where the reporter redundantly used the word 'allegedly' about 6 times in what seemed like 30 seconds.. I've noticed that CFTO reporters occasionally do this and it can be frustrating.
So here it is:
"OMG, the fucking journalism here:
The parents of a young man who plunged to his death from a downtown Toronto tower last month are coming forward to warn others about what they view as the dangerous pastime of “rooftopping,” which they believe played a role in their son’s death.
Emphasis mine.
It's OK, writers. You can take a stance. "rooftopping" is very dangerous, and the guy who died falling from a rooftop died because he was up on a rooftop."
Anyway, the guy's comment gave me a chuckle and resonated because I find what they do cringeworthy as well.
