It's rare that broadcasting ever turns the mic on itself, but at 11 AM Monday, AM 640's Alex Pierson has promoed a former CRTC member will be on talking about the implications of Bell asking to be relieved of some of its local TV news obligations.
Worth a listen if only because the implications of this move if granted will be huge, especially in smaller markets. And when was the last time radio talked about TV news?

Small change - she said it would be at 11 AM, but now it's in the 11 AM hour. But it will happen.

The segment ended up being with maverick former CRTC Vice-Chair Peter Menzies and it was way too short. But at least they brought people's attention to the fact they could be losing their local news in small towns. (Are you paying attention in London & Windsor?)
We've seen what happens when a Toronto team makes decisions about what's important to people in other cities. Take a look at Global's awful noon news, which tries to serve Toronto, Montreal, Kingston and Peterborough - and does a terrible job at covering all of them.
I hope the CRTC tells Bell where to go. But I won't hold my breath for anything but an easy "go ahead."
And as Alex Pierson noted on the segment, if Bell gets away with this, is Rogers next?
