On Friday, Lester Holt's kicker on NBC Nightly News was a compendium of historic moments from the broadcast, which is celebrating an incredible 75 years on the air. A large number of the old anchors are seen again, many of them now long gone. (Huntley & Brinkley, anyone?)
Holt also mentions that the studio will look a "little different" come Monday, when Nightly unveils its long-awaited new set, which was previewed here.
NBC Nightly News turns 75: celebrating our past as we embrace our future
I was a little disappointed we didn't get to see Frank Blair, who was a part of NBC's news department for decades. He's also responsible for my all-time favourite news blooper, when he was delivering the throws but tape after tape after tape failed to run. It starts around the :35 second mark of the video below. I love the way he visibly slumps at one of the last screw-ups and says simply, "You're kidding!"
But what a pro and he got through it like a champ! Talk about being hung out to dry by your crew. Oh, to be a fly on the wall at the end of that segment!
