I note the Broadcast Dialogue refers to "TSN 590 (CJCL)" in Toronto. I guess nobody is listening to 1050-CHUM these days

Not sure how many listeners CKPC actually had. I suppose they can always try and listen to K-Loathe on 102.5 out of Buffalo.

I guess if you're going to go all the way into the middle of nowhere, you better make sure you get what you came for. If AM ever gets eliminated, so will their hobby.

The latest early spot release brings together two familiar faces from the classic "Breaking Bad" - including the original Walter White.
I don't get the humour. But then I've never seen an episode of Breaking Bad.
It makes sense if you ever watched the show. It sure beats seeing Aaron Paul on the Bet 365 spots numerous times during every hockey and football game (when Wayne Gretzky and Connor McDavid aren't shilling for BetMGM).

If you want to hear a real radio play-by-play of the Indians Guardians- Blue Jays game you can listen to WTAM on 1100 right now. And instead of spots for Jack Links and the Armstrong Bird Seed you can enjoy the Chick-Fil-A Double Play Inning and commercials for Legacy Roofing and Progressive Insurance.

The irate Redskins fans who showed up the NBC Richmond studios makes me think of the tragic story of Roy Spencer, the father of former NHLer Brian Spencer. (Roy driving to CKPG-Prince George to force them at gunpoint to show his son's first game with the Toronto Maple Leafs as opposed to the scheduled Golden Seals-Canucks on Hockey Night In Canada)

Moderna booster at The International Centre before New Year's. I was jabbed one minute before my appointment time. Aside from a sore arm the next day, no complaints.
To make my reply about radio....Although I was inside Mississauga, I did not listen to 960-CKNT or 1320-CJMR. I also did not listen to CFMJ or CFRB. I believe I was boncing back and forth between CIND, CFNY and CILQ, depending on what songs were being played.

Maybe they could have just replaced the word "Eskimos" with "Elks"? That might have appeased the CFL fans who were listening.

Yes. From Section 115.
If I wasn't attending I would be most certainly watching it on TSN while flipping back and forth with the endtail of the Bills-Buccaneers and later Chicago vs. Green Day.

My premature condolences to all those working in stores where the signal is pumped in over the speakers all day and all of the night. (Which is a Kinks song from 1965, and doesn't qualify as a Christmas tune...)
Maybe CHFI will play the Kinks' "Father Christmas" instead of Mariah Carey?

The 1958 radio log is interesting. Wonder why they had a St. Thomas station (CHLO), but nothing from London? And Brockville on 1450 is interesting. There were closer stations to Toronto from the east, like the other Kingston station (CKWS), although I think Belleville was still on a graveyard channel back then. And CHEX in Peterborough had not moved to 980 yet.

I'm not sure where you're based, but that is an amazing "get." I've only received KNX once in Toronto, and it happened sometime in the 80s. I also heard KCBS in San Francisco at 740, back in the days when CBL used to sign off at night. And I had to wait until three in the morning or so to verify it.
The only other California station that's ever come in here for me was KFI on 640, long before what was then CFGM moved to that frequency.
With all the noise present on AM these days, especially in this city, I doubt anything that far away will ever come in here again. But your post at least gives me some hope!
I'm also in Toronto. No sign of KNX this morning when I checked at sunrise. Instead WFLI in Lookout Mountain-Chattanooga was battling CHOK-Sarnia.
SOWNY » The Radio Dial In 1937 » October 12, 2020 4:52 pm |
This all predates the 1941 NARBA frequency shifts, which is why you see things like KNX on 1050, KSL on 1130 and WKBW on 1480 on that list. The present-day KNX (on 1070) made an appearance at 7 a.m. this morning over CHOK-Sarnia.

He also frequented the Royal Bank of Canada on Avenue Road down from Bruno's.
Unfortunately I don't think most of the tellers there (most of who were born after he retired and/or were not born in Canada) knew or appreciated who he was.
