I think the current worst ads are not doomed by writing, but by improper use of talent. There's a car company ad employing a shill who is trying to sound Australian but clearly can't do it.

I agree about the improper use of talent, which comes down to casting the right voice actor for the copy. There's lots of announcer type commercial voice actors, but far fewer real voice actors.

Is the ad your talking about for Hyundai (I think it's that company, I'm not a fan of automobiles), and a female voice actor, because that's Nicole Kidman.

Listening to Leafs Lunch today, and I heard a spot talking about Jeff, and Jeff getting milk, or getting milked, and I think they were trying to sell... insurance? Don't recall the name of the company/product. Even the voice actor that powered through it sounded like he wasn't too sure about the whole deal.

It was udderly useless advertising.

Will there be a sneaky across the board increase with all the streaming services, Bell's Crave etc.

Netflix is totally worth a few bucks more a month. I'd probably drop Amazon, but part of their content is free with the regular monthly fee for Amazon Prime.

Good thing CBC's Gem is "free", what an uninspired thing it is, constantly freezing in the middle of a show, and saying try again later. No thanks.

Would Netflix set up a major office in Toronto and invest a lot of energy, and money without doing their due diligence on these changes and what they could mean to their Canadian operations.

I did contract work at both the CBC and the provincial auditor's office in the late 90's, it was eye opening to say the least. There's always more going on than what they tell the public via the media. And I bet the media knows more than they're saying because of legal issues.

When Anne Cavoukian starts retweeting Brian Lilley and a Toronto Sun front page with this story, it's not a good day. The Victoria Day weekend is around the corner, and if there's anything major that anyone in government or business needs to get buried, they'll go public with it on that Friday.

Thanks for flagging this story RadioActive. It's important, and goes way beyond "politics".

For the general American sports fan weaned on the shorter football season, the hockey season lasts too long, and there's too many games to sustain major viewer support night after night. Even some players, coaches etc, rabid hockey fans and most hockey broadcasters think there's too many games but it comes down to the almighty dollar.

The Stanley Cup finals should be mid May at the latest during a non pandemic year.

Plus, the NHL and their broadcast partners are crap at promoting star players, unlike say the NBA, and as a fast moving, complicated sport hockey does little to explain the intricacies, sheer beauty and skill required to play the game at the NHL level to new or possible fans. We sure could use an updated version of Peter Puck.

Wonder if Harvey Weinstein watched from his prison hospital bed.

I'm a serious fan of Terry O'Reilly, host of Under The Influence, and I'm absolutely not getting tired of him or the show, but....

I've noticed at times over the last couple of years the writing on the show has started to change. For the most part it's still highly entertaining, but every now and then there's a show that feels like a bunch of advertising trivia grouped together with little sparkle or cohesion.

I get that you can't hit it out of the park every week. It's most noticeable when he slips in an old show from the archives.

There's a day old Instagram post from Tom showcasing a trendy men's shirt, with lots of recent photos, so maybe someone convinced him to refresh his radio spots and have someone else voice them, or buy less expensive airtime, and this is just a lull?

And I cast my vote for "Look after yourself, promise me." as the most clunky, ridiculous tagline ever written. Don't know if I could deliver it in a believable fashion. But her smarmy voice is cringeworthy.

Runner up for most awful is the squawky read Nicole Kidman gives for those car ads. If she had to audition for the gig, doubt she'd get it if she wasn't a name.

They sort of do have a show like this. It's Marc Saltzman's Tech Talk, which deals with a lot of different computer and cell phone related subjects, or anything from the tech world. It airs Sunday nights at 5:00 PM.

Thanks RA, I listened a couple of times years ago and it always seemed like one step away from an infomercial.

On am640 on the morning show, Mike Stafford has David Shipley from Bauceron Security (sp?) on intermittently but it's easy to miss. Carmy Levy does a great job when he's been on-air with Newstalk 1010, but again, it's hit or miss.

Too bad 1010's newsroom is understaffed. This would have made a good week long series. Budget conscious buys for cellphone and laptops, which firewall apps are decent etc.

WiFi means I have been able to watch Netflix, check out Instagram, and read the EXTREMELY lame a** responses from Rogers on Twitter to irate customers. The company could not have handled it worse. As of now, no explanation as to what is happening, no end in sight.
