I honestly find the "Grain Farmers of Ontario" advert (that runs a lot on Newstalk 1010) offensive.  If they've got a beef with current Canadian government policy, OK make your case.  But to tout Trump as a bar to strive for is so blinking tone deaf.  Support Trump & I seriously doubt your ethics/motivations/intelligence.   Why would any rational group looking for broad based support willingly step into such a politically toxic quagmire?

While I don't speak French, I don't sense the hesitations nearly as much when Trudeau is speaking in French.   So is it more of a question of Trudeau doing a mental translation into English which accounts for some of the hesitation while speaking English.

Can those who are bilingual comment?

I enjoy it on Newstalk 1010 when Robert Turner plays a bit of Soft Cell's "Tainted Love" every now and then during "Moore In The Morning" to bug John who has always been very vocal about how much he loathes that song.

JJ Cale's a gem.  After Midnight, Clyde, Crazy Mama, Cocaine, Call Me the Breeze .. so many great tunes .. such understated, simple elegance .. we saw him at the Humanities Theatre at University of Waterloo; a fine show.

Robert Turner's a blast; a great sense of humour & delivery style .. a perfect foil to John Moore.

Suffered through another Newstalk 1010 round table this morning where Mark Towhey continued to dim the level of discussion.  Does he indeed "tie an onion to his belt"?

Memo to Mike Bendixen, Newstalk 1010 Program Director:
Fire this clown.  John Moore is the best your station has to offer.  Tarnishing Moore's show with the presence of Mark Towhey is an
abomination.  If you must, at least isolate Towhey & Agar to their own "The Dim Yell of the Clouds" show.

i also have a question about paid vpns.  they protect the computer or device accessing content, but what about my bell router?  wouldn't that IP still be visible?
When I asked Nord, they said i had to modify my router so that all devices would be invisible to make their product fully effective.

This is correct.  If you activate VPN on your router, all devices connected to the router will use the VPNs IP address, not your ISPs IP address.  You can verify yourself by activating the router VPN then on your internet session, go to a site like whatismyipaddress.com to show what IP address the internet sees for you.

mace wrote:

I am with Rogers. Not being a tech guy, how does one "modify" their router? One thing I have learned, if I want to use my Sonos box, the VPN must be turned off.

I've got an Asus RT-AC86U router.  Adding a VPN to the router is easy peasy.
Grab the .OVPN file from your VPN vendor.  Upload the .OVPN file into your Router VPN Client and add your VPN ID & password.  You're now good-to-go.  All traffic from any device connected to your router now uses the VPN IP address, not your ISP IP address.

I'm currently using stock Asus RT-AC86U router firmware as it meets my current need.  If you need to get more fancy, like run a single device (by MAC address) thru your WAN (ie. your ISPs IP address) and the rest of the router devices thru the VPNs IP address, you can load Merlin software onto your Asus router (Merlin is an enhanced version of Asus router firmware).   Merlin website is https://www.asuswrt-merlin.net/ .

You can add multiple VPN profiles .. say 1 for Toronto, 1 for New York & 1 for London, England to meet your geo-location needs.

Christie Blatchford sold a lot of newspapers over the years for The Sun, Star, Post and Globe. At her peak she was appointment reading when covering major crime trials, and she would write like nobody else. No nonsense, all business, clear thinking, always personal and never played favourites that was her style.    Blatchford was likely the only print journalist who had worked for all four Toronto dailies at some point.  Her sometimes friend and partner in crime Rosie DiManno in the Star today said it best, calling Christie Blatchford the best damn journalist in the country.

When I think of Toronto journalists, I think of two - Christie & Rosie.  Two no-nonsense "tough broads" who are classic reporters who can write on any subject, any event.   They're somewhat relics of a time gone by and I mean that in a good way.

RIP Christie.
