AM HD can also work. CHLO 530 is doing it. Sounds great from where I tune in Hamilton. (I'm old enough to have heard AM stereo when I was young, so HD is the next stereo step up for AM in my opinion)

It's weird as I'm in Hamilton and get both 92.9 and 88.5, both with the same programming.

I guess I should check to see if there's anything Grimsby originated on 88.5 website.

I'm curious which frequency comes in clearer where you are? I thought part of Durham's logic was for 88.5 to reach the areas that 92.9 didn't clearly reach. I remember there were parts of Hamilton (Downtown and East End) that 92.9 would have poor reception.

Typically, 92.9 has greater coverage. 88.5 is spotty.

I'm on central Hamilton mountain (near limeridge mall) and I can regularly receive North York's 158 watt CHRY Vibe105 in the car (although with static, more times than not, but listenable).

Occasionally, a Christian station on the same frequency will override it (also static filled)

Do you all play music out of a single playback system, or do hosts bring in their own music?

Combination of music hosted in stations servers and us programmer/DJ types bringing in our own music.

However, even just a rolling display of the current show name would be awesome if achievable. Will bring this up at the next station meeting this fall.

The simulcast/syndication, this is the 'synergies' that Durham radio proposed. Didn't think it included this type of dual programming over two stations during drive times and such. At the same time, it is a great way to operate a limited signal on a budget.

CFMU 93.3 McMaster Campus Community Radio has finally added RDS to their signal.

The upgrade makes me happy that people will more easily be able to identify the station (if their display allows it)

As a current programmer & volunteer, I'll have to ask/suggest that it somehow displays our 'current playing' program. Right now, it appears generic with it currently displaying 'You are listening to CFMU, McMaste'

I have an AM/FM HD radio and have heard 530 in HD. The sound is surprising good with little to no fade out.

It's great that someone is making an effort to program the all-night show with a human (ok, a sock, but a sock with a live human behind it.) Why igmore 25 per cent of the broadcast day?

As a current overnight radio DJ, I agree 100%. I do get calls at night when I supply the request line number.

What a great story! Thanks for the share.

I currently host a weekend overnight hip-hop radio show and it's always nice to hear about the pioneers 'in tha game' that started blazing a trail long before myself.

Of a note local note, in that same general time period, CKLN was just starting to make waves with rap/hip-hop. DJ Ron Nelson was our pioneer, our godfather of hip-hop.

Is anyone experiencing stations either coming in clear from areas that wouldn't normally happen or others now hard to get recently due to fire smoke?

For example: I was in the car on Hamilton mountain, and today was a day I could listen to Toronto's urban Vibe105 (CHRY 105.5) reasonably clear, something most days that doesn't work out. I caught a 105.5 from Ohio during another extreme Tropo day roughly a year ago, believe it was religious.

I believe it is a repeater as it would.be nested in Pickering. Their main signal would need to be located in Markham, as noted in past CRTC denials for TX changes (most recently Richmond Hill was denied for their main TX)

The likely reason was transmitter damage during the pandemic. (I remember reading about this issue some time ago)

At one time in North York, (long before the Corus era), Q107 and AM640 had studios across from each other. (I assume they're now near the Lakeshore in the Corus building)

Sadly, no. They wound down a few years back. Now I have to drive to Radioworld (an OK shop, but located at Buttfuck Nowhere in Toronto) if I need radio stuff.

Edit - Durham Radio was in Twitby.

Is that a suburb of Twitter?  🤔...😂

Does this mean it's already in use?

If so, where is it deployed?
