Sad that they did not include Wingham as a subheading under London. They still have 1 reporter there that is really good at getting around Meta rules.  Is this a sign for more staff reductions, I sure hope not.

Does anyone know how TVO is doing with its viewer supported membership. I'm wondering if this is still an option for CBC. The money raised would be an additional source of revenue. They could then decrease the amount of government funding or tv broadcast hours of paid advertising.
But I'm wondering how much money would be left after you set up a whole new department to collect and administer this idea.

I filled out the survey, I did find it long and very generic. I found many questions focused on what would it take to keep you listening to AM/FM radio in your car. There were really no questions specifically about Q107.
You could very easily insert any brand or call letters you want.
Over all a nice survey but you need time to fill out all the questions.

I've always found it interesting with American programing in Canada. How much money Canadian media has to spend and what type of ratings the program gets usually determines what station the program ends up on. If a program shows up on CHCH or Yestv tells me the show is cheap to buy and the ratings might be great for CHCH but not for CTV. If a program shows up on CTV that tells me the Canadian rights cost a lot more and the national ratings are pretty good.
As for 60 minutes. I would not be surprised if this program ends up on CHCH at some point or Global keeps it as part of the late night programing.

The issue with the CBC is not so simple for me and the answer will need political interference. We need to ask a lot of questions.
There are a few questions I have.
How many foreign reporters should we have and where should they be. What types of stories do we want them to do.
I have a similar question about local tv and radio stations. How many local stations do we want and how much local news do we want on each station. Do we see the value in local tv programing that is not news.
After the political office decides what they want. They can ask the CBC for an estimate on cost. Or the CBC can comeback and say this is what we can do with the budget you have given us.

I write this because the old comment that is presently used " we have a mandate to provide programing for all Canadians" does not give enough details.

I also think we need to ask some bigger questions.
Let's look at Global tv in Kingston Ontario. Global moved local news production to Toronto.
If we want local tv news produced in Kingston are we willing to subsidize Global to make it happen.
It all comes down to how much are we willing to spend.

This is a little bit off topic, but does anyone know how long TSN gets to keep the rights to the Original Hockey Night in Canada theme music. I can't remember all the details on how CBC lost the rights but all this time later Saturday Night has not been the same.

My only question is where will Saturday Night hockey end up. Will cbc be out of the picture. Also is Saturday night as big a deal as it once was. I've noticed that from time to time the Saturday game is on CBC, City, sportsnet, plus streaming. Is it possible that we see Saturday games on Amazon/CBC.
I agree that Bell Media has lost interest in TSN, but this is hockey and Bell owns the rights to the original Hockey Night Song. So let's see what happens.

Who started what for me is very subjective. Chum started CP24 using the newsroom from City, but Chum started a lot of channels like this.
When Bell was able to buy everything at 299 Queen except City, Rogers was required to move CityNews, while everything else stayed. In fact Bell moved other programing and stations down to this site.
With all of the staff cuts I'm not sure if there are many still around who helped start CP24.

Being raised in a small village but now living in the GTA, my go to news station remains CKNX. There is something about a small town radio station that still produces local content in the local community ( including Friday Night hockey games ) that puts things in prospective. Yes, I miss the old days when the tv station was there and they had 2 sports reporters and 3 full time farm reporters. Time moves on, but I still enjoy listening even throw  for me it's online in a podcast.

First, I was part of this group some time ago, left for a little bit but still followed and enjoyed most of the discussions. I'm not from the media industry but do enjoy following it.
Today I get most of my Canadian content from YouTube and Podcasts. I almost never turn on the radio or a TV station.
Over the Newyear from our hotel room I had a chance to watch an actual TV channel.
I was not impressed with CNN ( growing up they were a news channel ). Having what I think was one of there top on air people getting drunk gave me a reason to change the channel. I did get to watch CBC and was impressed with there Canada Live program. ( I only saw it from Winnipeg to Vancouver ). It looked like they used the concept of Cross Country Check-up and brought it to tv. Just talking to everyday people. For me this worked well.
On Newyears day on CP24 in the morning ( very big news event down south) I found paid programing for something the belonged before Christmas, not on Jan 1, 2025.
On Jan 2nd I watched the last half hour of CTV Your Morning. My only take away besides the lack of news stories and non bell ads. I only remember 1 ad for people over 50 with no life insurance.  No ads from Tim's,  Canadian Tire, The Bay, GM, Ford, Coke or Pepsi ( I'm sure others can add to the list )
Is anyone under 50 watching this show, and when will they move back to the Old Canada AM studio or will they shut down with the CTV news channel taking over that time slot.
Thanks for giving me a chance to share my thoughts with what I saw over the newyear.
