I know of one Giant Tiger in Toronto but too far to travel to. It would be nice if some of these stores would come back. More reasonably priced department stores. There is only Walmart, that I am aware of, and I rarely go there.

GT was a mostly a small town store. But, in recent years, they've been expanding into small to medium size cities. They have four stores here in London.

I'm not a fan of E-Talk but care to share your proof of the ratings other than your personal opinion?    It likely scores about as high as CTV News on a long weekend in that time slot, making it hard to justify the extra expense to produce a local newscast.   The lack of budget shows in some of these local markets, which is why more people just don't tune into the newscast as often.   Less local news on the local newscast has been going on since the flip of Bell ownership on CTV London.

I don't agree with their approach, as it does kill off a local stations relevance, but sadly it's where we are.

So, maybe zero is an exageration. There may be six or eight people watching.

My wife watches the most mind numbing shows on TV. Game shows, Reality shows, Dateline, American Idol. Even she doesn't watch E Talk.

I grew up around Owen Sound. On one show. Mike and Jerry were taking a trip to Owen Sound.

I was filled with pride. Of course, they never made it to Owen Sound. They ran into some kind of crisis around Orangeville.

The bubble of pride I had been feeling was quickly burst when Mike went to a pay phone in Orangeville and it had a rotary dial phone. We still didn't have such modern technology in Owen Sound, which, I fancied, to be a much larger centre than Orangeville.

I have started to collect vintage radios to fill up my book case shelves after cleaning out decades of old magazines etc. I picked up this ol fella from a 78 year old gentleman who told me this unit was bought by his parents originally and was the family entertainment when he was a kid. He grew up in St Thomas Ont. and recalls only getting 3 stations when he was really young. A local one , one from London, and one from Cleavland that his father would listen to baseball games on.

For a radio like that to pick up only local stations, they must have been using no antenna at all.

Anyone remember the old Cannonball TV series from back in the 50s? I was just a kid at the time and I loved it.

Every week the two truckers, Mike and the younger Jerry would set off on a run to somewher in Ontario and they always ended up in some kind of adventure, usually involving criminals.

Jerry was a ham radio operator and had a rig in their truck (That was the days before CB). He would often use that to get them out of whatever jam they were in.

Jerry lived in the home with Mike and his family. That now seems a little unhealthy. Mike's teenage daughter, Ginny, had the hots for Jerry.

I grew up in the Owen Sound area. Back then, we had only one TV channel. CKNX ch 8 Wingham. A large part of their proramming was locally produced and broadcast live. Everything from News to entertainment to music and variety.

I seemed so corny and small town and it was. But more of that kind of programming would be a refreshing change today.

Also, I am not convinced that Howard Stern is actually that popular in Canada.  I sometimes hear that he is, but have never seen any numbers to back up that claim.  The very few people I know that have  subscribed to his channel found they weren't listening to him that much.  Last I saw Sirius XM had about 2.7  million subscribers in Canada in 2017.  How many of these pay the extra cost to get Howard and do they listen to him regularly?

I've been a subscriber since the very beginning. I have never once listened to Stern.
