Some pictures were still up on the site of them but the iHeartRadio website for Canada is a pain to navigate. I could not find the shows section on the site which is dumb. Yet it shows that Bell Media is cheap in house for making a website like this.

SOWNY » K-LOVE 102.5 Toronto coming soon... » May 30, 2023 11:03 pm

According to these posts on Radio Discussions. Rumors are still going around that 96.1 or 92.9 might flip formats. But the question is: Will Kiss 98.5 play Christmas music this year from November to December just like what 102.5 did? Or will it stick to an Adult Top 40 format? Also there were discussions that Rob Lucas the morning show host on 102.5 might end his long career in radio. But some speculate that he might move to middays at Kiss 98.5 or join 96.1 The Breeze? We will have to find out.

No annoying, super-repetitive commercials like these here in the Ottawa Valley... although Spence, which has a location at Ottawa's Rideau Centre, is heard every so often on radio in the capital, as are the many Dilawri car dealerships in the city ("no-body deeeeeals, like Di-law-ri!"). No idea who the most frequent advertisers are on the talkers, CFRA and CityNews... my wife & I usually have Stingray CHR Hot 89.9 on in the car, or its competitor, Jump 106.9.

Locally, the Mazda dealer in Pembroke used to dominate the airwaves and papers with their numerous rapid-fire ads pitching used vehicles, and then the Chrysler dealers in Pembroke and Renfrew became the major auto advertiser, bombarding "BAM!" across the Valley. Those ads are gone now, with the Renfrew location now under new ownership.

The closest thing to a repetitive ad on local radio here these days would be for a plumbing and heating contractor, whose phone number could be mistaken for that of a Pizza Pizza franchise. Repetitive, but not so annoying compared to the stuff you hear all the time in the GTA.

Or London radio ads like "Mattress Depot", "Ray Cullen Chevy Buick GMC" which I not heard in a while. Stricklands, Finch auto group. They own almost every dealership in London. They own one in Sarnia and one in Georgetown near the GTA. But still I do tune to other out of market stations I can try to get from other areas like Chatham, Windsor/Detroit, across the lake from Erie and Cleveland. I think the ads in the states are a bit different there compared to here in Canada.

SOWNY » Couldn't CTV London and Windsor do this? » May 23, 2023 12:09 pm

I just looked on the TV Passport guide for Windsor and it does show the AM800 Morning Drive in the CTV2 section. I doubt that London will get on board here like Windsor and Vancouver Island. I guess CFPL will repeat the 11PM news just like CKVR in Barrie does.

SOWNY » Couldn't CTV London and Windsor do this? » May 22, 2023 8:49 pm

If you didn't know CIVI on Vancouver Island simulcasts CFAX in the mornings which is really neat. But the question is why couldn't CFPL in London and CHWI in Windsor do this instead of repeating the 11PM news in the mornings? They could of done something useful to their viewers by simulcasting the morning show from CJBK 1290 in London and CKLW AM800 in Windsor. To provide morning news updates, traffic and weather to viewers just like what CIVI does to viewers across Vancouver Island.

Here is a video of what I mean.

Yes. When CTV’s Agincourt studios experienced that power failure, it didn’t really affect the western CTV stations.

Just for curiosity when did CTV had the outage that it affected stations like Windsor, London, Kitchener and Barrie etc. From I can recall I think it happened in 2020 during the pandemic but I was lucky I was able to stream one of the local CTV newscasts for free without a login. Those were the days when COVID changed almost everything.

I saw something very odd on CTV's noon news in Toronto Thursday. They were about to do the Leafs recap, and went to viz of the crowds in Maple Leaf Square for about 10 seconds. Then, suddenly, they cut to a promo for Grey's Anatomy and Station 19, which ran most of its full 30 secs.

They then cut back to anchor Nathan Downer, who was in the midst of throwing to reporter Andrew Brennan at the arena. He said two or three words, then the screen went to what looked like the tail end of another spot saying something about Mother's Day. That was there for at least four seconds and then it was back to Brennan, still in mid-script, throwing to his piece about the game and reaction.
You rarely see stuff like that on CFTO, and I'm guessing it was either a weird glitch or an error in Master Control. The news crew didn't seem aware of either interruption. After that, everything returned to normal.

Something similar happened last night during CTV London's news at 6. There were no issues when they did a Live on Location segment where Nick Paperella was at one of the new Dream Lottery homes on the outskirts of London. But when they did another Live on Location segment where Julie Atchison was live on location at one of the McDonald's locations in London during McHappy Day. After showing her weather forecast her live feed began to glitch and freeze then her feed unfroze but lost her audio feed and had to send it back to the newsroom. Reta said: "Looks like we are losing Julie." then showed what stories are coming up next. After that unexpected mess up the rest of the newscast went on without any more errors. Does CTV use that famous "Dejero" brand for their live camera feed?

Very disappointing I enjoyed listening to Vinyl Tap on FM96 Sunday nights. But what was the main reason for it to leave the airwaves? cost cutting? Also it is still listed on Cool 94.5's website which is owned by Blackburn Media Inc. Maybe CKLO 98.1 in London could air it instead? Take all of FM96's listeners to 98.1 instead? We will have to wait and see.

If 107.7 is such a weak signal...too weak for top 40 radio to be successful, why did did Entercom (at the time) pay way too much money for it rather than consider it to be too weak a signal to be a threat to WKSE?

Now WKSE can move to 107.7 and be an actual top 40 there freely without being a threat to any other station.

I doubt WKSE will move.   Kiss 98.5 is a heritage format/station and moving it would only harm things more.    I can see them flipping 107.7 to a Hot AC perhaps under the Star brand.   It could be more successful than the current country.   They also could decide to go more adult leaning CHR with Kiss 98.5 to fill the void left.  This could split audiences between 96.1 and Kiss.   They could also sell off the rest of the stations they own in Buffalo.   I sure wouldn't feel good working in the building currently... way to many unknowns.

I agree. We will have to see what Audacy does next to 107.7 or 98.5. Also I kinda guess the only Hot AC is 105.1 The River now? Their signal covers parts of Buffalo/Niagara Falls in Western New York.

I doubt that WKSE will move to 107.7 I would rather it stay on 98.5 I love listening to it in the Greater Toronto area because that is the only alternative Buffalo station I would listen to and get away from the annoying Canadian ads on the radio like the provincial/federal ads that have been advertised again on the radio. Spence Diamonds etc. Love hearing the cool ads they do on the american side of the border. I think Star should move to 107.7 the "Wolf" branding is not working anyway. 106.5 WYRK is the most listened to country station in Buffalo anyway.

SOWNY » Is this the most overplayed song on the radio? » April 26, 2023 5:38 pm

It is called "Die For You" by the Weeknd and it was recorded in 2016 and released in 2017. Here we are in 2023 and it is still being played many times radio stations like Z103.5, Virgin Radio, CHUM 104.5, Kiss 92.5 etc and across the US. This maybe a reason why. According to the Wikipedia article it says.

"In 2022, the song experienced a resurgence in popularity, due to the online social media application TikTok. Therefore, the song impacted US radio, achieving a new peak within the top ten of the Hot 100. On February 24, 2023, the Weeknd released a remix of "Die for You" with American singer Ariana Grande, which topped the Billboard Hot 100 chart dated March 11, 2023."

Yes I know some people might find this song overplayed many times on the radio but when it is played almost all the time I switch it to a different station.
