The late night guys are doing okay with their "at home' editions. As far as opening monologues go... Steven Colbert is very good --with-- an audience, but in my opinion falls flat without one. Fallon is a little better and uses a lot of props but I've got to say Jimmy Kimmel is the best at working without an audience. He's truly a funny guy (IMHO).

In 1968 CJCS Stratford was 500 watts by day and 250 at night with a single tower just south of the city. The station signed off overnight, so as the morning announcer I would flip the switch to turn the station on at 5:58 am. In the spring/ summer months the power up time was 6:30 so I would just sign on with daytime power UNTIL a complaint came in from a ship on Lake Erie. There were really no consequences for me personally that I recall.

In the 60's, Leamington's CJSP was a day timer only. When it went top 40 and changed calls to CHYR they got an adjacent frequency for night time. At sunset they would play "it's fine tuning time - please adjust your radio to this sound" and a squiggly little sounder would play as the 10,000 watt 710 signal went off and the 500 watt 730 signal would come on. I never hear the night time signal because I was too far away. Always thought that was weird but for their central market at least it gave them a 24 hour station.

This decision is the edge of the wedge that will allow the main networks to continue requesting simsub after they turn off over their over the air transmitters in many parts of the country.

Until now a broadcaster must have an over the air signal to request simsub, that's why the cable sports networks can't cover off US network signals when they carry the same sporting events.

CTV and Global have applied to shut down dozens of transmitters (mostly rebroadcasters of base stations). Under current rules they would lose simsub rights in many heavily populated areas. This decision paves the way for unlimited substitution IMHO.

Watch for similar 'amendment' requests coming soon to a CRTC near you.

I intended to watch the whole debate but couldn't get past the first half hour. When Sheer's 'answer' to the very first question didn't even address the question but he used the time to attack Trudeau... I knew it was going to be  a waste of time.

I have never believed any leader should be a part of the debate if the party is not running a full slate of candidates across the country which would rule out the Bloc leaders (but we can't offend Quebec can we). Bernier was mostly a waste of air time but he has a full slate of candidates, but I wonder if he's playing with a full deck... and May is green, we get it.

I thought  SIngh was the most at ease and made some great points but the format was just too convoluted I just couldn't get too deep into it, waiting for the newscasts to boil it down for me.

In the mid 70's a construction dig in Sudbury cut the Bell lines to both CKSO 790 and CHNO 550 taking both off the air. In the rush to repair the lines they somehow got switched and CKSO was on 550 and CHNO on 790 for awhiile (just a short period of time but somewhat amusing).

I was watching the Today show this morning and they showed highlights and video of the fans in Toronto from last night. In fact one of the hosts, Craig Melvin has been gushing about the Raptors throughout the series.

It was interesting to me that the main CTV channel picked up the ABC coverage of the game but didn't get the simulcast (at least on Rogers where I live). They also cut out after the game long before ABC was finished. I thought ABC did a great job of being objective and celebrating Toronto and Canada's win.

CTV Toronto has chosen to go crazy, spending - in one instance - the first 13 minutes of their noon newscast going over every bit of minutiae you can name to squeeze every last nugget out of this. And then, they come back later with even more. If you're really into this, it's probably great. If you're not it's 'OK, bring me some other news, already!'

MLSE owns the Raptors, Bell and Rogers own MLSE, and Bell owns CTV and TSN... both channels that will be carrying the game tonight.

There's your explanation.

They wanted the simsub for sure and only carrying the SAME broadcast qualifies, so they obviously bought the rights to the ABC feed so their Canadian advertisers would get the additional exposure. I'm guessing the Sportsnet advertisers also got the Citytv feed. Not sure about that but it would make sense to ensure they got maximum reach.
Technically they had a problem though, there was a terrible audio buzz for the first 5 minutes of the pre-game show.

The ratings may be down but across the U.S. games 1 & 2 were the most watched TV program. This from TV by the Numbers::: ABC’s broadcasts of the first 2 games of the NBA Finals took the top 2 spots in the adults 18-49 demo – with matching 4.8 ratings – and in total viewers with 13.88 and 13.38 million viewer audiences, respectively.Meanwhile, the season premiere of NBC’s “America’s Got Talent” was the week’s highest-rated (1.7) and most-watched (9.75 million) non-sports broadcast.

I seem to recall an interview some years ago where he was asked about playing the song live, and doesn't anymore  because he doesn't want to bring politics into a show where people are supposed to be enjoying music and having a good time.  Or it may have been because it was a specific song for a specific time and he doesn't want to relive that particular era anymore.  Perhaps he has changed his mind.  Anyone recall him playing it live recently?

That makes sense... good for Gord. Respect!

Phlash is one of the only reasons I kept SiriusXM in the car after the free trial period ended. He's one of the few personalities left on radio. On long road trips it's fun to listen to his many stories and phone interactions with listeners. The 60's on 6 music brings back lots of memories but even with 10 years of tunes to spin... there's an awful lot of repetition.

Back to the original intent of this post, CKLO or FREE-FM 98.1 as it's known.

I'm an occasional listener and never would have guessed their licence was encumbered with the "Special Interest Music" category. It sounds like a true classic rock station to me. Perhaps they grouped all the special interest music into off peak times like many stations did in the early Cancon days, all Canadian Sunday nights comes to mind.
