It will come down to the writing, especially with a new cast. Is the new series being written by the people who wrote the original show? If not, I think the combination of new cast and different writers  makes it unlikely this will work.

Frasier was the least interesting character on the show. I don't see this working with a new cast.

WGR didn't carry the Tomorrow Show, at least not for its final few seasons, and didn't carry Late Night with David Letterman for the first few months.

Haven't watched 3D TV. Saw a the remake of Clash of the Titans in 3D at the cinema a few years ago. I don't know if it's because I have a bit of colour blindness and if that would interfere with the effectiveness of the glasses but I found the picture kind of dark and the whole thing gave me a headache so I have a avoided 3D versions of films since then (I think the fad has faded again anyway since I haven't noticed 3D options at  Cineplex lately).

What's the minimum threshold for "reached" - ie if you saw only 5 minutes of the wall to wall coverage does that qualify as having been "reached"?

I watched the second episode of the new Quantum Leap on Monday and was curious to see how they'd updated the opening credit sequence from the original run of the show. I was surprised to see there really wasn't one. No theme tune, no visual sequence, no voice over setup. Just a stinger and a 2-second blink it and you'll miss it flash of the title.

Quantum Leap is a pretty high concept show and even though by the late-80s we'd moved away from highly expository opening credits (or the 1950s style theme lyrics explaining the premise) there was still a voice-over and video explaining that this was a guy travelling through time, inhabiting other people's bodies.

In the age of streaming and the "skip credits" button fewer productions are investing money into theme songs and expensive visual openings but something is being lost whether it's the familiar theme tune that gets you in the mood to watch your favourite show or the quick orientation lesson for a show you're watching for the first time (especially if your first episode isn't actually the series premiere.)

Ratings for Queen's funeral suggest more people in UK watched Euro final last year

Historian Dr Andrew Keil commented on the figures being lower than anticipated."Interesting comparison to audiences for the EURO2020 final," he noted. "Also means that only about less than half of the UK population tuned in [when there was hardly any alternative thing to do than watch the state funeral]."

I agree Bell really screwed up here and Laflamme should not have been fired - but this really gave me pause:

On the day the Queen died — an eventuality for which Lisa and her usual CTV crew had long prepared, down to Buckingham Palace accreditation, after covering the sovereign’s Platinum Jubilee in late spring — “I couldn’t breathe.” The thought that she had no employer, no journalistic avenue, was agonizing. “I was despondent. Here’s the biggest story of our lives and I didn’t even have a job.”

Really? The entirely predictable death of a 96 year old is "the biggest story of our lives"? Bigger than 9/11? Bigger than the fall of the Berlin Wall? Bigger than Watergate? I get that Laflamme is a monarchist and this is a story she really wanted to cover and that it sucked being unemployed when it broke - but calling it the biggest story of your life isn't what I'd expect from a seasoned journalist.

National Post and Globe & Mail are substantially business-oriented.    Toronto Sun has a lot of sports content.     All are well-aware of their readership

Vancouver Sun doesn't have a lot of sports content? What is Toronto Sun doing that isn't working in Vancouver for Vancouver's Sun? Why does Toronto get a Monday edition Sun but Vancouver does not?

Although they are all now owned by Postmedia, the Vancouver Sun was never a Sun Media newspaper and so has never had the Sun tabloid format (it's always been a "serious" broadsheet paper) - having been founded in 1912, almost 60 years before the Toronto Sun was launched.

The National Post hasn't printed a Monday edition since 2017 and it seems no one has noticed (they still publish online on Mondays).

I was up early so I listened to CBC Radio on and off. They're commentator was historian Carolyn Harris who did a good job. The tone was somewhat monarchist (though there was some discussion  of Barbados and republican sympathies in the Caribbean) but that's not really a surprise.

Interestingly, in 1935 when George V died "The King’s death and funeral were also treated with great reverence and care. Indeed, the Commission went off the air on both days as a mark of respect." https://cjc.utpjournals.press/doi/full/10.22230/cjc.1994v19n2a806

The Commission being the CBC's predecessor, the CRBC. According to another source I read the other day, the CRBC delivered a solemn 15 minute news bulletin announcing the King's death and then promptly went off the air - leaving listeners to tune to American radio to try to find out details about the King's funeral etc, prompting complaints in the House of Commons.

CTV's excessive coverage would make sense if John Bassett were still alive - under his ownership CFTO would play God Save the Queen along with O Canada at sign off and sign on long into the 1980s - accompanied by old film of Elzabeth Windsor on horseback.

Here's a short clip of Ms. LaFlamme. Wonderful to see her on our televisions again, and hear her measured, heartfelt words on the passing of HM.

And how good to hear the word "Buckingham" pronounced correctly so the last syllable does not rhyme with Spam.

She mispronounced "The Mall" though - it actually rhymes with pal, not hall.
