CFTO was dropped by Spectrum Cable Buffalo because after repack they could no longer pick up their signal which is now on highband VHF. CFTO and CBLT were accessed off air. At one time CFTO was designated a significantly viewed channel on Spectrum cable in Niagara County.

WBAP and WFAA Dallas used to switch frequencies day and night 570 and 820 KHz in the 50s and 60s. 820 KHz was a clear channel in those days.

Same programming as 1.0. Slightly better picture better colour more stable. The transmitter is in Grand Island NY from what I understand it is directional away from Canada. It is still in a testing phase.

WNYO RF16 Next Gen has WGRZ, WIVB, WKBW and WUTV as subchannels. The different subchannels have different power levels in ATSC 3.0 so some may not make it to Toronto. I receive them all in my location.

I had a 1979 Dodge Charger (the smaller one) with AM stereo and FM stereo. The CQuam AM stereo sounded great.

SOWNY » WUTV / WNYO Technical difficulties... » October 27, 2022 4:53 pm |
From Facebook:
To All our loyal WUTV / WNYO Viewers:
We thank you for your inquiries regarding our stations.
On Wednesday October 26th at 1:41pm a critical cooling component on our transmitter failed which required it to be shut down. The materials needed to fix this unexpected issue have been ordered and are currently in transit.
This failure did not affect the fibers that deliver our programming on Spectrum or Fios but all 'over-the-air', satellite and Canadian viewers are experiencing the disruption.
Please note we are working as quickly as possible to bring the transmitter back up so you can enjoy your favorite shows on our two stations.
If you would like to see any FOX prime shows that were missed due to this outage, please download the free FOXNOW app. Yesterday’s Masked Singer and LEGO Masters are available for viewing.
We thank you for your continued patience during this unfortunate technical issue.

WUTV29 and WNYO49 are on the same transmitter as subchannels on Grand Island due to WNYO transmitter going ATSC 3.0. So if there is a problem with the shared ATSC 1.0 transmitter both stations go off the air. Interestingly enough WUTV and WNYO are still broadcasting on the ATSC 3.0 transmitter on RF16.
SOWNY » Technical Question: Signal Strength Vs. Signal Quality » October 24, 2022 1:43 pm |
There was tropo reception of far away signals last night due to weather conditions. I picked up WPNT Pittsburgh last night here in WNY. When you have these weather conditions the far away signals can interfere with the fragile ATSC 1.0 signals. I had trouble receiving the Toronto stations which usually I have no trouble with. With ATSC 1.0 any disruption or multipath and the signal will not decode. There was no technical problems with WUTV.
SOWNY » The Buffalo Radio Station You've Never Heard Of » September 22, 2022 5:06 pm |
University of Buffalo at one time owned WBFO 88.7. The radio station was sold for financial reasons a few years ago to the Western New York Public Broadcasting Association which also owns WNED-FM and WNED-TV. I have visited the station when it was at UB.
SOWNY » WBLK and WMSX Buffalo Reception Issues » April 6, 2022 2:00 pm |
WBLK 93.7 Buffalo and WMSX 96.1 Buffalo appear to have fixed their reception issues. They seem to be at full power here in WNY with RDS. I now have signal bleed from WMSX on CFMZ 96.3 whereas before it came in strong.
SOWNY » WBLK Toronto Reception » January 31, 2022 1:31 am |
I live in WNY and I have noticed reduced strength on both WBLK and WMSX 96.1 both stations owned by Townsquare Media for a couple weeks now. Maybe they are having transmitter problems and Townsquare hasn't sent out an engineer to check. Problem with one mega company owning many radio stations.
SOWNY » Columnist: CBC Radio Should Be Returning To Shortwave » October 12, 2021 2:26 pm |
CBC has started to show up on some Roku apps here in the US. Mostly news items not the same as regular CBC which I can pick up here. So there is some presence outside of Canada.

If there is a major hurricane or tornado outbreak in the US at night they do break in with full weather coverage instead of their weather reality shows.

SOWNY » Do You Get WNLO, The CW Affiliate In Buffalo? You'll Want To Know This » May 23, 2021 8:59 pm |
After the repack WIVB moved to WNLO's transmitter and became a subchannel of WNLO along with Court TV. WIVB sold their old frequency to the wireless companies. So WNLO RF 36 now has WNLO (1080i), WIVB(1080i), Bounce(480i) and Court TV (480i)as subchannels. Also as a result of a deal regarding ATSC 3.0, they are also hosting Get TV from WNYO on a subchannel (49.4 virtual 480i) so it can be seen in ATSC 1.0. So there is no more room. I think it is amazing that they can have that many channels on one transmitter.
