CHCH has taken up the mantle of where the old independent CKVR left off.

Awesome picture!  CHCH somewhat has yes with the classic shows but not fully.  If they could add Knight Rider id be really happy.

Boom still does a request lunch hour and they play out of the ordinary stuff from their playlist that people do call in, have a chat and request.

CHUM FM had a few years back "power lunch" when Ingrid Schumacher was in her last years.   I remember emailing her and she played my song within 20 mins.  Thats also when they were still allowed to play hits from the 80s until today (year 2015 I believe this was)

One of the first things I learned working for a Top 40 radio station is that the request lines they had back in the day were pretty much a total sham. Since most of what was being asked for was going to be in the regular rotation anyway, they'd simply ignore the request and just play it when the time came. Occasionally, they'd have an answering machine record the listener making the request and then use that to intro a song they were going to play at that time anyway.

It made it sound like "we play what you say" and it might have helped with listener involvement and record research, but in my experience, it was more a gimmick than anything else. The Ashby Show is different, in that it takes requests for obscure oldies and since there's no real "playlist," they're actually fulfilling the wish and making it a feature of the show.

But I still prefer leaving the bulk of the choices to the pros.

Always kind of thought it was that way!  I do remember all request hours being a thing on radio up until the early 2000s!

Well im in central etobicoke (kipling near eglinton) and appears the height of land, no building obstructions nearby plus a 3rd floor height facing south seems to help.  In the distance level by eye, my DB4E antenna is height rooftop level to the new condos to palace pier/parklawn area lakeshore that I see from afar (if it works that way).

The Moose is a great brand of stations. Wikipedia:

Vista Radio received extensions from the CRTC to April 15, 2020 and was given a third, and final, extension to October 15, 2020 to relocate CFJB-FM 105.5 MHz in Bolton, Ontario to 102.7 MHz and increase the power from 50 to 1,100 watts

I wish CHUM still had their old playlist of a few years back whcih included what it is today and they thru in some 80s to the mix...however that would be too similar at this point to CHFI so I understand.

Heres the thing....so far (I know storms can be hard to predict) but CTV Toronto news last night at 1130 spoke first right away about the storm.  It was already supposed to be bad at this time of day.  So far its a joke.  So at this point the hype is losing steam.   Its Canada at the end of the day.  It snows.

Judging by the hype of the weather and its failure to actually happen this year so many times, maybe it was a good idea to not report it much https://cdn.boardhost.com/emoticons3/cheerful.png
and to be honest none of it is sticking to the pavement (so far today) atleast here in downtown.

Apparently not. According to Rabbit Ears.info, the final Toronto station moves will take place in phase 10. (WKBW's engineer told me the March 13th move is part of phase 8, so you have an idea of where we are.) According to the chart below, that looks to be July 3rd. At least the local stations won't raise reception concerns.

If I read this right, (and please feel free to correct me if I don't) that means the following will be moving on that date:

CJMT (OMNI)
Current: 40
New: 26

CIII (Global)
Current: 41
New: 17

CITY TV
Current: 44
New: 30

CFMT (Omni)
Current: 47
New: 18

Great info again!  I can concur that the stations are still sitting on those current #s based on what I saw light up on my re-scan last night.

To put this in perspective:  Buffalo is 600' above mean sea level.
The site in Colden, to the top of the WIVB/WNLO tower is 2,667' AMSL.   So the line-of-sight from that tower is tremendous relative to the target audience scattered around Buffalo.  I should also note that when they go to the top of the tower, and increase power to 800 KW, there is also a component of 200 KW "vertical".
That will also improve reception.  I don't believe that WNLO Ch. 32 or WIVB Ch. 39 had a "vertical" component to their radiation patterns.

Toronto, on average is 246' above mean sea level.   So, although WIVB/WNLO are out towards our horizon, the tower height and the elevation of the antenna "above mean sea level" are a plus, in terms of our ability to receive the signals.

Fantastic info thanks.   Basically it sounds like when all said it done it will be a blowtorch.  I am receiving this station and WKBW and almost full signal at times in Etobicoke with no drop-outs in their current pre-repack state.

For those who had reasonable reception of WIVB when it transmitted on Ch. 39 from Colden Ny, (for about 10 years) I suspect that the signal may be nearly equivalent on Ch. 36, when they finish the antenna rebuild.
For comparison, the antenna is only at 1,023 feet now and they are running 560KW.
When they rebuild (sometime before summer) they will be at 800kw and 1,362 feet.  That is 10Kw greater than when they operated on Ch. 39.

1362 feet?  Wow, that is a tall tower.

True. CHR is not a fun place to be currently, unless you like Rap/Hip-Hop. The Box by Roddy Ricch is in its fifth consecutive week on top of the Hot 100. Nine of this week's top twenty are performed by Rap artists. Some of the non rap artists in this week's top 20 seem rather sappy/lame, in my opinion. Memories-Maroon 5, Someone You Loved-Lewis Capaldi, Lose You To Love Me-Selena Gomez, Yummy-Justin Bieber and the above mentioned Everything I Wanted-Billie Eillish. Sorry, none of those impress me. Still, a bit better than endless songs about ghetto bitches and hoes.

Haha very well put!  I think the last ever party anthem from the CHR world was "despacito" back in 2017.

I used to DJ weddings and right now I dont really know of any current hit that would light up a dancefloor.  I'd have to go back to the decade vault for anything like that.

Speaking of mainstream and millenials.   If you listen to the way music has somewhat "softened" just tune into Virgin 999,...its pretty darn soft sounding.

CHUM 1045 is more pumped up than that station!
