The Wrecking Crew bassist Carol Kaye blows off interview with JazzFM host Ronnie Littlejohn March 19, 2021. At the 44 minute mark.

I have a dozen TDK D90 recordings of The Daddy Cool Show but suspect that's not the vibe they're after.

SOWNY » Tom’s Place » April 20, 2021 7:21 pm

Heard Tom speak with Peter Sherman on am640 last Friday. I also heard Tom's voice on Classical FM 96.3 sometime last week. His spots do not bother me; it's the 'Hi I'm Cherry Tabb - Herzig Eye Institute" shout that I find intolerable. The whole radio gets turned off immediately with that one.
Something to consider... if Tom's Place is no longer a 1010 client it may be BellMedia's choice. (Because they are that arrogant). And Newstalk1010 is, after all, making attempts to gain female audience share.

SOWNY » "...difficult to work with..." » April 14, 2021 4:07 pm

I hope this is not Patrick O'Neill. He has been with 1010 five or six years and has done everything Bendixen asked of him. I understand it may not mean he is gone from the station (and interestingly Evan Solomon did mention "Patrick on the board" last Thursday).

I prefer assertive hosts. That's why I listen to Mr Agar.

Perhaps you have overlooked it but there is available to you an entire national  network of radio programming designed to suit your tastes. It is a safe space where the show hosts are always friendly, welcoming and never angry. You will find this happiness in Toronto on the FM frequency, 99.1 MHz. Se servir.

SOWNY » Are You Sick Of All The Live COVID-19 Press Conferences On TV & Radio? » May 11, 2020 5:02 pm

I have been watching The Partridge Family daily at noon. It's like free mental health therapy - a restorative to the feigned concern all those politicians and medical administrators have for my best interest.
So indeed I stopped watching the pressers weeks ago and just inform myself at the top of the hour.

SOWNY » Former CTV Talk Show Host Succumbs To COVID-19 » May 10, 2020 6:06 pm

Was the afternoon show on CTV called 'Passages' Or perhaps that was the title of the episode I watched as a teen which had William Shatner as guest for the full hour. They got into all kinds of talk around religion and personal growth stuff. I wondered "is this how adults talk to each other when no kids are around?" At the same time I  recognised a 'psuedo-intellectual' tone around the whole conversation. It was a match of equals - although Bill did seem to ... expound more.

The Joyce Davidson Show is also noteworthy for having Sandra Faire as a Producer.

I'm in agreement with all that you've written ... and would like to doubly support The Gumbo Kitchen.  Ronnie Littlejohn deserves a national platform.  His loose conversational style - with smart observations and good natured wit - makes listening to him a pleasure.

I believe it is because presenters like Hull, Carla Bosacki and more are needed to do facetime for other regional news broadcasts.

SOWNY » Horn honking on the radio » September 6, 2019 5:52 pm

I heard a commercial for Volkswagen on 640 Toronto which used car horns to 'bleep' out swear words. Is this permissible ?

There was a time when it was a violation of CRTC rules and then later all stations adopted it as a general policy.

This was in place, of course, so not to distract, confuse, frighten or just plain lose a listener who is trying to negotiate the crammed roads os Southern Ontario.

SOWNY » CityNews’ Anchorless Cast Has A Meltdown » August 25, 2019 9:29 pm

Poor Pam. December is her 30th year with City TV.

I missed this but have witnessed 2 other oopsies in the last 3 weeks. One at the 6:00pm start, Pam was put on air even before the shows standard intro. Sitting on a stool chair - unaware she was on - perhaps 3-4 seconds.
The other was a production foul-up. Pam in studio presenting a news story to camera when suddenly the expression on her face heightens, stops speaking, turns her head 90 degrees (looking to someone off camera) where I presume received direction to drop the whole thing because that's what happened.

It's summer, prime vacation time. The floor director and techs are probably young'ens.

I've had enough of it all as well. My remedy is to switch the channel to CBLFT.

Though it raises the question - If CBC mandate includes uniting the Country (as I believe it does) why is Le Telejournal Midi featuring Andrew Scheer blabbing behind a podium while Suhana Meharchand sis-boom-bahs in front of an arena?

They've given up. 75 years later two solitudes' remain.

I'm with you Chief. CBC Radio current events programming is an abomination.  The Sunday Edition is a particulaly haughty example, existing only to congregate soft-headed lefties and fortify their mutual biases. A flagrant abuse of the money taken from Canadians for government activity.

If you need a hug, try Tom's Place, he seems like a friendly dude.

Broadcasting is a regulated public asset. There are many standards and codes to meet or surpass. NOT mixing opinion when reporting fact is one of them. (I'm talking about conventional news reporting here).
Thus, people get concerned when/if newsreaders cross this line. Ignoring it, as you suggest, will only lead to a dissolution of a longstanding proven convention. It's mandated by the CRTC!

Consider what you might get without it.

McKee is trying to add some personality and 'entertainment' to his job, I get it. Still....

SOWNY » Swearing On Air: Where Do You Draw The Line? » April 14, 2019 8:35 am

First F bomb I heard was on Brave New Waves - when Augusta La Paix hosted. A guest (who owned a salon in NYC called Jungle Red with a waterbed in the waiting area) blurted it out, paused her speech, then Augusta deftly said "that's ok I didn't say it". It immediately took the steam out and allowed the conversation to continue. Curiously I heard Laurie Brown use the same line years later when it happened to her. Nowadays I doubt a host could escape some form of sanction.

(Since we're talking cuss words, I have a cassette recording of Bob Mackowycz saying "bullshit" on air in 1978. In the context of the topic - Springsteen's life/management/recording contract - it was appropriate.)
