I like the community station idea above.

National ad buys are going to be down 85-90% in April...the big guys aren't going to be buying anything this year.

Source on National Ad Buys being down 85 to 90% in April?

The tying in of HD into this application was really more of a cover to say they would keep Proud on the air than a real step into that arena; a political move they hoped would help pass it.

They do have Z on 92.1 HD, and they could do 88.5 too, I agree, but it would probably make little to no difference in Z's future.

As for 103.9, I wouldn't be shocked if they just shut it off.  A little conspiracy minded, but I never thought it was anything but a placeholder to help Z move into the city following a regulation change or a clever application.

They could a Hybrid. Call it Dynamic with Hot AC and Country. It worked for a week at one time and was unique under the archaic rules in the 90's.

I saw the CBC ads as well. Only thing I can think is CBC is towed something from the Rogers Hockey package and this spot exposes music lovrs to CBC APPs.

I have always watched the American feed on Shawdirect.  In the clear never had an issue. Also a lot less compression on this feed too.

My station worked just fine. The location for the alert system audio insert point should be just before it reaches the STL link, after all delays for profanity and such. With the system and the audio quality is pristine. AES In/Out, did the same at another station and third one is analog bell lines just before the circuit termination QUK1A coils. Intelligibility was fine on Several station I dialled around. CBC All nets English and French, Corus, Bell. I didn't have a chance to hear anything on the other groups.

Is it because mono "hides" the static sound when the signal is weak and stereo emphasizes it?  Like pushing the stereo on/off button on a receiver to hide the hiss?

That and the fact that a mono FM signal propagates better although no commercial music station since the early 1970's has chosen to stay mono for obvious reasons.

CKNR Elliot Lake was in Mono when they signed on in 1997. I know of major market stations that run 3 db or 6 db reduced stereo separation to overcome distant listening issues with less than ideal coverage.

Have a Close look at the coverage map. They will be interfering with CBC 94.1 R 2. Despite service from Paris on R2 they will be loosing audience in the affected area. Also Christian on the AM will affect Sound of Faith in both Kitchener and Woodstock.

I don't know what happened but I have worked with the Chief Engineer on AM sites in the past. I am sure they lost a RF component that had to be replaced. Depending on what it is this could cause narrow band performance of the antenna  array sounding muddy or lo fi. Been there myself in the past.

Maybe they should have just asked for a power or height increase at their existing transmitter site.

If they coupled into the Moose FM Antenna at the ex CKCO Tower at Dwight a 5 kW transmitter they would be heard everywhere! CFBK started with 3 Kw in two H pol bays and was heard everywhere. Pretty big panel antenna up there now.

I was camping at Arrowhead last fall. There was a widespread power failure due to the wind storm. Hunters Bay radio was on the air, live and local with information. The Moose FM outfit was not live and someone had inserted a VT that was extremely out of date after the first hour.
