New Free Online Doc Traces History Of City TV’s “People City”

I first heard about this on Wednesday’s Jerry Agar show. It’s a new online documentary from Retrontario about a very old song and one here many will recall vividly: “People City.” It’s the tune Moses Znaimer used as a theme for his then-new City TV and it aired primarily at the sign-off of the station every night.

Yet despite that, it became a famous tune in T.O.

The doc contains vintage clips, commercials and interviews with the people behind the song, including vocalist Tommy Ambrose. It’s just over 23 minutes long and if this classic evokes great memories for you or you're curious about how it came to be, it’s well worth your time.

Well worth it, indeed.

A beatifully done piece of work.  Watched it on my big screen and full audio system and was impressed with the Care taken in dealing with the audio from the old commercials.

Thanks, Ed Conroy et al.  It was a pleasure to watch.

The song itself enjoys a spot on the rotation of AM740.

Speaking of sign-ons/offs, does anyone remember CFTO's sign-on from the late 60s/early 70s that was basically a vignette of Toronto waking up and starting the day complete with milk bottles being exchanged at the front door?
